Sardinia is famous for its extraordinary archaeology. The most well-known but still mysterious periods in many ways are the pre-Nuragic and Nuragic periods, which have left incredible testimonies of their civilisations: not only nuraghes, but also giants' tombs, sacred springs, and Domus de Janas. We propose an example of an itinerary to discover some of the most important archaeological realities in the entire Northwest of Sardinia.
Our tour begins at the archaeological site of Anghelu Ruju, the second largest necropolis in Sardinia. It was excavated from the third millennium BC and used until the Roman period. Anghelu Ruju is the ideal place to tell the story of the strong spirituality and close connection with the deities to whom the pre-Nuragic and later Nuragic populations entrusted their rebirth after death.

The visit will continue to the Nuragic village of Palmavera, located within the scenic Porto Conte Regional Park. The village, inhabited from 1500 BC, includes a Nuraghe, surrounded by a wall, and a village with about fifty huts and a large meeting hut. This village is the perfect setting to talk about a unique civilization in the Mediterranean panorama and admire the construction skills that elevate megalithic architecture to its highest splendor.
To complete this magnificent journey, the megalithic complex of Monte Baranta is situated on a plateau from which a vast territory could be controlled. The presence of an imposing defensive wall, the remains of huts, and a sacred area represented by a megalithic circle give us a glimpse of the civil, military, and religious life of the pre-Nuragic era. To reach the archaeological site of Monte Baranta, we will walk a 20-minute easy panoramic path along the edges of the plateau, enjoying a magnificent view of the agricultural landscape up to the sea of Alghero.
